Dr. L.T. Kapungu retired from the United Nations after a career spanning more than 30 years in conflict management. Among some of his work at the United Nations was the establishment of the Lessons-Learnt unit of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) as well as securing funding for the unit. The responsibility of the unit was making recommendations to the Secretary-General on how to improve ongoing and future missions. He established a Resource Centre as an institutional memory of peacekeeping and peace support operations. His experience is a valuable resource to GERDC.
